COVID-19 Impacting Restaurants

Houston’s Sashimi Tuna Salad $23 -1 Serving
Casa Cottiers Tuna Salad $21-2 Servings

Local and national restaurants have banded together to ask people to support the restaurant industry by ordering takeout. I myself only ordered take-out twice since March. As a Holistic Nutritionist and Natural Foods Chef I enjoy the task of grocery shopping and cooking at home. Cleaning up, not so much. I have only been out to dine at two local restaurants since the reopening of Broward. The staff were incredibly happy to be back at work. Each place was well sanitized and all staff were wearing masks.

Houston’s has been one of my favorite places since my old flight attendant days. Catching up with friends, meeting a co-worker, a client or even to just dine alone as the ambience is beautiful overlooking the intracoastal.

To help support our local Houston’s I called in a take out order yesterday, and was told that they can not sell me the above pictured tuna salad because it is raw. I replied, no problem I would like it well done. I was put on hold as he went to ask the Chef. He came back apologizing that the Chef still can not sell it like that to go. What a double standard, you can order a medium rare steak and or a burger to-go, but not tuna cooked well done. Try wrapping your head around that one!

Yesterday we recreated one of my favorite salads from Houston’s which cost $23 SASHIMI TUNA SALAD pan-seared ahi, mango, mixed greens, shredded cabbage, ginger, cilantro ginger vinaigrette.

Whole Foods total food costs for two servings $21.22. Added cherry tomatoes, sliced onions, and lemon vinagarette dressing that I had in the refrigerator. Wild Yellowfin Tuna Steak $12.25, Organic Red Mango $1.99, Avocado $2.49, Organic Spring Mix $3.00, Organic Cilantro $1.49

Oh how we miss the days of care-free eating out without a mask. Be safe, stay-at-home and have fun recreating your favorite dishes from your local restaurants. Cook healthy, organic meals for the family as much as possible.
