What really happens to your brain when you eat SUGAR?
Wendy Cottiers – June 22, 2015

WENDY, HOW MUCH SUGAR IS ALLOWED DAILY? I get asked this question almost daily. I tell my clients less than 10% which is about 6 teaspoons (or 25 grams of sugar daily) of your total daily calories should come from sugar. Let’s think about Food Labeling you will find “Sugar Grams” on the left column, but never the “% Daily Value” recommendations for Sugar % on labels in the left column. More tricky marketing?

The direct marketing of products directly to our children in the U.S. is alarming. The Nutrition Facts label on food products lists key nutrients, serving size and calorie information based on a 2,000 calorie diet. While at a clients home recently, I advised that four grams “4g” or “4 grams” of sugar is equal to one teaspoon. To be precise, 4.2 grams equals a teaspoon, but the nutrition facts round it to four grams. KEEP IN MIND THAT EVERY 4 GRAMS = 1 TEASPOON OF SUGAR = 15 CALORIES

1 Tablespoon = 12 Grams of Sugar = 48 calories

When reading labels remember if you are averaging 5% of Sugar daily that would equal just about 25 grams or 6 teaspoons of SUGAR…..MUCH LESS THAN A SINGLE CAN OF COKE has your Doctor ever mentioned that to our children? To find the amount of calories from sugar in a product, multiply the grams by 4. For example, a product containing 15 grams of sugar has 60 calories from sugar per serving, according to the American Heart Association. If you eat 2,000 calories a day, that’s 3%.

Sugar Lobbyist preach that 25% should come from sugar! WHICH IS 2.3x’s more than the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations – Our children started as infants on sugar milk. Formula Lactose Free substitutes with FRUCTOSE which is just another name for sugar. Corn is also turned into Fructose then used as a sweetener for soft drinks. In 2002, WHO put together a “Technical Report Series Report” recommending no more than 10% of calories per day should come from SUGAR but the sugar manufacturers panicked and went to the White House to put a halt on that report, resisting the plan- extortion to hide these documents.

9 teaspoons of Sugar = 37.5 grams = 150 calories a day

12oz. can of Coke (or sweetened soda)= 140 calories from Sugar = 40 grams of sugar = 10 teaspoons of sugar.

Organic 100% Raw Coconut Water = 12g Sugar = 3 Teaspoons of Sugar !!!

1 Tablespoon Ketchup = 4 grams sugar (about 1 tablespoon)

1 Tablespoon Corn Syrup = 13 grams Sugar= 57 calories

1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup = 12 grams sugar = 51 calories

1 Tablespoon Honey = 13.5 grams of sugar = 63 calories

It is no surprise that Childhood Obesity continues to rise in America and it is reported that in 2015, 1 in every 3 children will sadly be diagnosed with Diabetes.

The American Heart Assoc. states that men/women no more than 150 calories from sugar.

Sugar and Obesity? Limiting the amount of sugar in your diet is important. Diets high in sugar and refined carbs can lead to overweight and obesity, which indirectly increases cancer risk over time. Certain cancers including prostate, pancreatic, colorectal, breast are all associated with obesity.
